yesterday, i tried to use my devious brew on this pet (https://dopcom.net/creechers/p/creature/7QyfACVqACV2). it was transformed from the spiral-looking form to the pointed tail form, rather than the skeletal form. i noticed its affinity bar still had a part that needed to be filled, so i figured that was the issue and decided to wait until the next day to use another brew.

this morning, i used another brew on the same pet, now with a full void affinity meter, and nothing happened. i used an unfood both times before using the brew, for reference.

i'm not sure if i'm just misremembering how brews work (sorry for making a thread if i am! ;;), but is this intended? i've successfully used 2 brews in the past and i don't remember there being an rng element to it?

The way Devious Brew (and other mutation effects) work is that it rewinds the pet's growth back to the egg stage, and then fast-forwards through the entire growth process using the pet's current affinities to determine what to grow into. Just like when a pet grows up for the first time, there's RNG involved. Devious Brew additionally adds new void-aligned outcomes into the pool, which are weighted heavily enough that they will usually be the result, but it isn't guaranteed. I can take a look at the specific pet you've been trying to mutate and see if there's anything else going on, though.

When you say that "nothing happened", do you mean that it went from one common non-devious form to another, or do you mean that literally nothing happened? The former is absolutely possible, but the latter shouldn't be. (Although, with the green pet, there are two outcomes that look very similar, so it's possible that it went from one of those two to the other.)

i meant the form didn't seem to change at all- the recent activity feed did show that the brew was used and the pet had mutated, but the form remained as the pointy-tailed one that it had become after the first brew.

though now that you mention it, it definitely could have just switched between the two similar forms and i didnt notice.

I ran some tests on the pet you linked and got the Devious form three quarters of the time. High enough that you should have gotten it by now, but low enough that it's not unreasonable to think you just got bad RNG.
