New features for forums + item breaking overhaul

All user-editable text (bios, room descriptions, forum posts, etc) can now contain pets using the [pet] bbcode, and can also contain links! Please use this new power responsibly.


Also, it is now possible to subscribe to forum threads! When there are new posts in a subscribed thread, a notification icon will appear next to the forums link in the top bar. A similar notification will appear if someone writes your username with an at sign.


The item-breaking mechanic has also been overhauled, as mentioned in the previous announcement. Increasing the number of items in the room will now also increase the chance of any item breaking, but if there are 15 or fewer non-essence items in a room (or more if there is also bubble wrap) then artifacts will not break. Crafted items such as fluff balls and plush friends still use the old breaking mechanics. A warning banner will appear when a room contains enough items to trigger the new breaking system.


The next registration window starts on saturday the 17th and will run through sunday the 25th. Tell your friends!

  • Three new pet species (artwork for these is about 80% done)

  • Pet grooming system

  • Expansion of items dropped by pets and crafting

  • Calendar system with several minor holidays

i appreciate the clarity in how likely things are to break with the new mechanics

does the items counter include drops?? prima materia, fur, vines, blue/red claws? any/all of the food in the gardens?

Epi is really quick to answer usually, but I wanted to pop in anyway - the previous announcement said drops aren't intended to count against the amount of items.

Editing to add: That said, I did notice that my gardens which were full of crops (and just 3-5 boost items) had the 'very likely to break' notification in them, which did disappear after I removed the crops.

yesterday all of my rooms had the warning there were a lot of items in them. now i checked again and none of them have a warning except some of my gardens with a lot of crops in it. what happened?

@Silvercat When the update first released this morning, the break rate calculation was slightly wrong and I tweaked it later in the afternoon to make bubble wrap more effective.

@wit The item counter doesn't include any item with the "essence" type, but it does include material drops. This may change in the future if it gets too annoying.

ohhhh i see the bubble wraps increase the limit of items in a room before the warning shows up. that's pretty neat actually.
well ok then. so items will just Not break if there's no warning?

@Silvercat If there's no warning, crafted items like fluff balls and plush friends still have a chance of breaking, but tier 5 summoned artifacts cannot.
