Guide: Pet care: Grooming
Pets need grooming regularly. The specific frequency of grooming depends on the item used; most items keep pets groomed for three days, but some last for as long as seven days, and some only last for a single day. The primary importance of grooming pets is to ensure that charms continue to work. Once the pet's grooming has expired, charms that provide daily boosts to affinity will not function until the pet is groomed again. (Charms that provide daily boosts to other things, such as the Friendship Bracelet, will also not work when the pet has not been groomed. However, charms with preventative effects, such as the Umbrella Charm or the Silver Lock, are not affected.)
Grooming drops
Every pet has a chance to provide items when groomed. The specific items that are possible depend on the species and form of the pet. Grooming drops are related to, but distinct from, socialization drops. During socialization, all pets can drop Prima Materia, Gleaming Essence, and/or some sort of elemental essence. However, no pets drop Prima Materia or Gleaming Essence when groomed, and only a few forms that are very elementally-aligned drop any kind of elemental essence. Grooming drops tend to more often be common crafting materials such as fur, scales, or shells. The grooming drops for any given pet form tend to be otherwise comparable to the form's socialization drops, although common items tend to be more common when grooming and rare items tend to be rarer.
