In addition to pet rooms and gardens, it is also possible to build storerooms. Storerooms provide a way to organize excess items, but they also allow you to buy, sell, and trade items with other users on the site, which is the backbone of Dopcom's economy.
Buy, sell, and trade offers
Users can create three types of offers in storerooms. These are sell offers, which allow visitors to spend dopcoins and receive items that are in the room; buy offers, which allow visitors to put items into the room and receive items; and trade offers, which allow visitors to put items into the room and receive other items from the room.
When creating a buy or trade offer, only certain items can be requested. This is for two reasons. First, it limits the size of the dropdowns; with hundreds of distinct kinds of items existing on the site, listing every item in existence and expecting users to scroll through them to find what they're looking for is impractical. And second, this avoids potential spoilers for newly-released or late-game items. However, any item that is already in the room can be requested freely. This way, if you have a rare item and want more of this item, you can place it in the room in order to add it to the list of requestable items. The following items are always requestable:
- All types of essences
- All eggs that can be summoned under normal conditions
- Generic creature foods obtainable by cooking
- Items that can commonly grow in gardens
- Crafting materials that are obtained from summoning or from grooming pets
- Non-furniture items that can be purchased at the general store or can be crafted
Private trades
On the same page for editing trade offers in a storeroom, it is also possible to enable private trades. By default, storerooms allow private trades to be sent by users on the room owner's friends list, but this can also be changed to open up private trades to anyone, or to disable private trades entirely.
When sending a private trade request, users can offer any items from their inventory and any amount of dopcoins that they have on hand. They can request any items that are currently in the room the trade is being sent to and any amount of dopcoins. Once sent, the room's owner will be notified and will have an opportunity to accept or reject the trade. The user who sent the trade may also cancel it at any point up until the room owner responds to it. If some requested items are removed from the room, or if the room does not contain enough dopcoins, the trade will not be able to be accepted until everything that was requested is returned to the room.
Items offered in a private trade will be temporarily removed from the sender's inventory and stored in the trade request. If the request is accepted, those items will be placed in the room that the trade was sent to; if the request is rejected or canceled, those items will be returned to the sender.
Finding user shops
By clicking on "User Shops" in the site header, a list of all user shops can be viewed, containing a summary of what is for sale in every shop. This page also allows shops to be searched for by the names of items they are buying and selling. "Search by offered" will find all sell or trade offers that can provide visitors with items whose name contains the text that is entered, and "search by requested" will find all buy or trade offers that are looking for items whose name contains the text that is entered.
